Designing on a budget

Home furnishings and decor can get pretty expensive. But, there are ways to get that look you want for less. So, I’m going to tell you 5 ways to get an expensive look on a budget or how to have “champagne taste on a beer budget”.

Shop second hand

The best way to have nice furniture and decor for less is to buy things second hand. Used nice furniture is going to last so much longer and look so much better than new cheap furniture. You don’t want your whole room to “match” anyway. You want a unique collection of items that compliments each other. Facebook Marketplace is a great place to shop- especially for furniture. And go thrifting! You can find some unique items that will add character.

Things you can easily buy second hand: coffee tables, wall art, bedroom furniture, desk, tables, lamps, decorative pieces, chairs

DIY

You can save so much money by doing projects yourself. There’s always a sense of accomplishment that comes with a new skill. And, you get bragging rights when your guests comment on how great your home looks. You can sew your own pillows and drapes, paint the living room that blue you’ve been wanting, refinish your dresser, or add some wainscoting to your hallway. We live a time where everything is at your finger tips. Wanna learn to tile? YouTube. Want learn to sew? YouTube. Anyway, you get the idea. Dust off those tools and take a chance on yourself.

Shop Sales

Stores run sales constantly. They always have clearance and use any and all holidays as a reason to run a sale. Some better than others. And if you watch stores long enough you learn their sale trends. So wait and buy the things you want when they’re on sale. Patience pays off.

Buy Dupes

You can find dupes on tons of things. Stores are trying to bring us that famous designers style for less. So, if the quality is there, then go for the dupe. Vases, lamps, pillows, and throws can usually be duped while still curating a certain aesthetic.

budget wisely

Put your money where it will make the biggest impact- like paint. Paint is so inexpensive and can completely transform a room! And a little styling can go a long way. Drapes and pillows add so much to a room and inexpensive ones are so easy to find. Wall art is also easy to find inexpensively. Put your money where you’re going to see it.

Creating a home that looks expensive doesn’t have to be expensive. Expensive is an aesthetic, not a style. So take these tips and create a home you’ll love.
