how to hang wall art like a designer
I’m a huge fan of wall art. Sometimes I have to check myself because I want to put it everywhere. But, whether you have a little or a lot, how you hang your wall art has a huge effect on your home. One of the first things I notice when I enter someone’s home is if their wall art is too high or too low. So I’m here to give you a guide so your home looks high end.
proper hanging height
So, it turns out, there IS a magic number when it comes to wall art! 57. Yep, 57 is the magic number. Your wall art should be centered at 57” up from the ground.
Here’s an example of a single photo centered at 57” off the floor.
Gallery walls are a little different. You want the center of the gallery to be at 57” off the ground.
exceptions
There are a few exceptions to the 57’ rule.
Small art
So this little photo is centered at 60 inches. As you can see the light switch was in the way. But, I probably would have hung it there anyway since it is a small piece. So, with single, small wall art you may want to raise it SLIGHTLY. Don’t get wild.
Hanging Above Furniture
The 57'“ rule isn’t going to work when you're hanging art above furniture. You want to keep wall art 6-8” above furniture.
Leaning Wall Art
Don’t be afraid to lean your art on furniture. It can add a nice layered look. Obviously height won’t matter here- just balancing.
You don’t need a designers eye to hang art. You just needed the right guide. So get that measuring tape out and lower those pictures!
